Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Develop innovative permanent works design solutions supporting advanced manufacturing, particularly preassembled reinforcement cage solutions.
• Lead and support technology and innovation initiatives aligning design and detailing with manufacturing requirements.
• Collaborate with Design Automation and Configuration teams to improve design efficiency and repeatability.
• Identify and develop new product opportunities for the Energy sector ensuring solutions are compliant, practical and manufacturable.
• Provide early-stage engineering input to embed Modern Methods of Construction into future green energy projects.
• Deliver structural engineering expertise across Technology & Innovation activities.
• Optimize permanent and temporary works solutions to support manufacturing facilities and project outcomes.
• Build strong relationships across clients, designers, suppliers and internal teams to drive innovation adoption.

This is not a traditional design role. Working alongside experts in engineering, manufacturing, digital technology and research, you'll take innovative concepts from early-stage development through testing and validation to real-world application.

From advancing Steel-Plate composite construction to bespoke automated manufacturing facilities supporting the future of clean energy, you'll help create the technologies and solutions that will define the next generation of energy infrastructure.

Role Overview

As a Product Development Engineer within our Technology & Innovation team, you'll combine structural engineering expertise with innovation, advanced manufacturing and product development to create smarter, more efficient ways of delivering clean energy infrastructure. Working at the interface of design, manufacturing and construction, you'll help shape future methods of reinforcement, prefabrication and modern construction solutions for major infrastructure programmes. You'll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to turn innovative ideas into practical, scalable outcomes that improve project delivery.

What You'll Be Doing

What We're Looking For

Essential criteria

• Degree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering or lived experience.
• Civil and structural engineering design capability with knowledge of relevant design codes and standards.
• Excellent understanding of structural behaviour and first-principles engineering.
• A passion for innovation, continuous improvement and solving complex technical challenges.
• Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams and influence stakeholders.

Desirable criteria

• Experience in product development, innovation or research and development environments.
• Knowledge of manufacturing methods, prefabrication and product-based engineering approaches.
• Temporary Works design experience within construction or major infrastructure projects.
• Progress towards professional chartership with ICE, IStructE or a similar institution.
• Comfortable working with ambiguity and helping shape new ways of working.
• Enthusiasm for emerging technologies and turning ideas into practical outcomes.
