The role blends on-site collaboration with remote work in a hybrid setup, and you will design and oversee structures for residential, commercial, and marine projects along the coast.

The ideal candidate holds a BEng/BSc in Structural or Civil Engineering, is registered (Pr Eng or Pr Eng Tech), and has about 6 years of coastal/marine experience.

About the Role

Our client is a distinguished engineering firm with a significant presence in coastal development, actively seeking a skilled Structural Engineer to join their East London office. This role offers a hybrid work model, blending essential on-site collaboration with the flexibility of remote work. You will be instrumental in designing and overseeing the structural integrity of a variety of projects, including residential complexes, commercial buildings, and marine infrastructure along the scenic Eastern Cape coastline. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct structural analysis and design for building and infrastructure projects, ensuring compliance with national and international codes.
• Prepare detailed structural drawings, calculations, and specifications for tender and construction.
• Perform site inspections and structural assessments to monitor progress and ensure quality control.
• Collaborate with architects, contractors, and other consultants to coordinate structural elements with overall project design.
• Manage and mentor junior structural engineers and technicians.
• Develop cost-effective and innovative structural solutions.
• Ensure all designs adhere to relevant safety, environmental, and building regulations.
• Prepare technical reports, feasibility studies, and project documentation.
• Respond to site queries and provide technical support during the construction phase.
• Engage with clients and stakeholders to present design proposals and project updates.

Requirements

• BEng or BSc in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering with a structural specialization.
• Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) or Professional Engineering Technologist (Pr Eng Tech) registration with ECSA.
• Minimum of 6 years of relevant structural engineering experience, preferably with exposure to coastal or marine environments.
• Demonstrated experience in the design of concrete, steel, and masonry structures.
• Proficiency in structural analysis software such as SAP2000, ETABS, SAFE, or equivalent.
• Familiarity with South African National Standards (SANS) and relevant building codes.
• Strong understanding of construction methods and materials.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Willingness to travel occasionally to project sites as required.
