Job summary

American Society of Civil Engineers is launching a brand new structural engineering division within its design-led property and architecture group, offering you the chance to join from day one and shape the function. You’ll lead live residential, commercial and mixed-use projects with genuine ownership, working in a hybrid model in Southend.

You’ll collaborate with architects, clients and contractors to influence pricing, workflows and the service offering, and build the team as the division

Qualifications

• MIStructE or close to chartership with clear timeline
• Strong UK structural engineering experience on residential and commercial projects
• Knowledge of UK Building Regulations and standards
• Experience delivering projects from design through to construction
• Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with architects, clients and contractors
• Ambition to progress into leadership roles

Responsibilities

• Lead structural design and delivery across live projects from concept to construction
• Produce calculations, drawings and specifications
• Collaborate with architects to develop integrated buildable solutions
• Manage multiple projects concurrently and liaise with clients and contractors

Our client is launching a brand new structural engineering division within its fast-growing, design-led property and architecture group, and this is your opportunity to be there from day one, taking a key role in establishing and growing the new function.

With an immediate project pipeline, genuine autonomy and the backing of an established architectural practice, you'll have the freedom to influence how the service operates, from technical standards and workflows through to pricing, delivery and future team growth.

It's an opportunity for an ambitious Structural Engineer to have a level of ownership, influence and career progression that simply isn't available in a typical delivery-focused role.

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll lead structural design and delivery across a variety of live projects, including:

• Leading structural design from concept through to construction
• Producing calculations, drawings and specifications
• Working closely with architects to develop integrated, buildable solutions
• Managing multiple projects simultaneously
• Liaising with clients, contractors and consultants
• Establishing technical systems and quality standards
• Supporting the development of the structural engineering service
• Getting involved in early-stage business development as the division grows

Who Are We Looking For?

We’re looking for an experienced Structural Engineer who wants ownership, influence and progression.

Essential Skills

• MIStructE or CEng - or be close to chartership with a clear timeline
• Strong UK structural engineering experience
• Proven residential and commercial project experience
• Strong knowledge of UK Building Regulations and relevant standards
• Experience delivering projects from design through to construction
• The confidence to work independently
• Excellent communication skills with architects, contractors and clients
• Ambition to progress into leadership

Desirable Skills

• Experience within a design-led or multidisciplinary practice
• Residential extensions, conversions or mixed-use experience
• Track record of delivering projects end to end
