Job summary

Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council is seeking an Inspector in our Highway Structures Department. You will be responsible for inspections and generating inspection reports on bridges, walls and other highway structures, contributing to a resilient and well-maintained road network.

The role requires Level 2/3 in Civil/Structural engineering or equivalent, with experience in bridge inspections, strong defect detection, and clear reporting.

Qualifications

• Level 2 or 3 in Civil/Structural engineering or equivalent.

• Strong attention to defects, safety and quality.

As an Inspector for our highway structures department, you will be responsible for undertaking inspections and producing inspection reports, surveys, and investigations on various bridges, walls and other highway structures.

Responsibilities

• Inspect highway structures
• Identify issues and defects
• Document findings and keep accurate records
• Ensure compliance with current codes of practice
• Collaborate with the team on repair works
• Supervise minor maintenance works and site activities

The role will also involve outdoor and lone working. You will be required to effectively manage your own time to deliver inspections.

Qualifications

• Level 2, 3, i.e. A-Level or BTEC in Civil/Structural engineering or similar, relevant qualification.
• Previous experience in bridge or structure inspections.
