Job summary

Jobtailor in Ipswich seeks a civil/structural engineer to join the highways structures team, responsible for inspection, maintenance and construction in collaboration with the Highway Services Contractor and supply chain partners.

The role involves inspecting structures across the county, prioritising works, and implementing strengthening measures to ensure safety and fitness for purpose, with a strong emphasis on team collaboration and adherence to safety standards.

Qualifications

• Level 6 qualification in civil or structural engineering required.
• Engineering Technician status and/or working towards Incorporated Engineer status preferred.
• Knowledge of structural behaviour and experience in inspection, design, assessment and management.
• Experience delivering bridge/structure projects with design management exposure.
• Familiar with Design Manual for Roads and Bridges and relevant codes of practice.
• Understanding of health and safety legislation including CDM Regulations 2015.

Responsibilities

• Work within the team responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and construction of highway structures in collaboration with the Highway Services Contractor and supply chain partners.
• Inspect and assess a wide range of structures throughout the County, prioritise, develop and implement maintenance and strengthening works to ensure they remain safe for use and fit for purpose.
• Collaborate with internal and external teams and organisations to deliver successful service.
• Take personal responsibility for your own work and guide and support other technicians and colleagues.

Qualifications

• Level 6 qualification (e.g., BSc, BEng degree or equivalent) in civil or structural engineering.
• Hold Engineering Technician status and/or be working towards (or preferably hold) Incorporated Engineer status.
• Knowledge of structural behaviour and experience in the inspection, design, assessment and management of such structures.
• Experience of bridge and structure design management over a reasonable time period and successful delivery of a range of bridge or structure projects.
• Knowledge, awareness and practical application of bridge and structural design, inspection and maintenance techniques, including the appropriate application of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges and other relevant structural codes of practice and guidance.
• Understanding of relevant health and safety legislation and codes of practice (including the CDM Regulations 2015).
