ICE Recruit in London is seeking a seasoned structural engineer to lead design work on superstructures, with emphasis on steel-framed buildings and steel-concrete interaction. You will prepare calculation packages, fabrication sketches, and review client specifications to ensure buildable solutions.
The role requires a background in structural engineering with 5+ years’ experience and aims for chartered status.
A technically focused career opportunity with a leading design & build contractor. The position would suit a consulting engineer with building structures or civil superstructures expertise. Your first assignment will be working on the completion of a major HS2 interchange. More generally, your skills will be applied to projects in the nuclear, rail, aviation, highways and high-rise construction. The company relies on a technical team to resolve demanding design challenges and support successful project delivery. This is a chance to become part of an established engineering group involved in major schemes throughout the London region.
Design work will focus on superstructures, particularly steelwork and its interaction with concrete elements. The position involves developing connection details, preparing calculation packages and fabrication sketches, and reviewing client specifications to establish design requirements. Close liaison with project managers is required to ensure solutions are practical and buildable. You will also respond to technical queries from clients and consultants and assist with the development and checking of work produced by junior engineers.
A background in structural engineering with five or more years' experience is required, together with a commitment to achieving chartered status. ICE and IStructE training and mentoring are provided. Previous involvement in the design of steel framed building structures is essential, along with familiarity with software such as IDEA StatiCa, Tekla Structures and Robot Structural Analysis. Strong communication skills and a practical understanding of construction methodology and buildability issues will be highly regarded.
