Job summary

VolkerHighways currently seeks a Street Lighting Electrician to join our Abingdon-based team. The role covers electrical installations, repairs, and planned maintenance on our street lighting contract, with on-site duties and safety-first responsibilities.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in street lighting, relevant certifications, and a flexible, can-do attitude for 24/7 standby work in a busy civil works environment.

Qualifications

• It is essential to have formal electrical qualifications and street lighting installation experience.
• You should hold and maintain the required safety and traffic management certifications.
• Experience with electrical testing and planned maintenance is preferred.
• A valid driving licence and physical ability to work on-site are required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with installation of signs, columns, bollards and related equipment.
• Provide 24-hour emergency response and out-of-hours standby coverage.
• Assist with new build works and electrical installations.
• Carry out safe work under the Site Supervisor’s instruction.
• Perform electrical inspection and testing including periodic tests.
• Diagnose faults and carry out repairs.
• Maintain vehicles and complete defect sheets according to procedures.

About The Role

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Street Lighting Electrician to work on our Street Lighting contract in Abingdon, Oxfordshire. You will be responsible for providing support for electrical installations, repairs, planned maintenance and new installations.

Key Responsibilities

• Assisting with the installation of signs / columns, bollards and associated equipment
• 24-hour Emergency Response / Out of Hours Standby
• Assisting with the installation of any new build works
• Carry out works as instructed by the Site Supervisor in a safe manner, within the scope if relevant duties
• Electrical inspection and testing including periodic testing
• Fault diagnosis and repair
• Ensure vehicles are maintained to a high standard, with vehicle defect sheet completed correctly

About You

• Ideally 5 years Street Lighting installations experience
• Must demonstrate good awareness of site and company rules
• 18th Edition Electrical
• Safe Isolation / G39
• SWQR card
• NRSWA qualification
• MEWP Operator
• ECS HbS Test
• First Aid (Appointed Person)
• Manual Handling
• Preferable registration to Highways Electrical Level 3 NVQ
• Driving Licence up to 3.5 tonne
