Job summary

Canterbury City Council is seeking an experienced transportation leader to guide the council’s small transportation team. You will shape strategic transport and parking initiatives, working with the Head of Transport & Environment to tackle congestion and support sustainable growth across the district.

The role involves delivering projects from concept through to construction, developing partnerships, and presenting clear reports to committees.

Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge of sustainable transport solutions and their role in healthier places.
• Extensive knowledge of transport and parking policy.
• Experience leading transport projects from concept through delivery.
• Experience developing and implementing transport and parking strategies.
• Experience building productive partnerships with communities and delivery partners.
• Ability to develop and implement effective policies and strategies.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Clear communication with stakeholders and technical teams.
• Strong project management and budget monitoring.
• Ability to lead, manage and develop a team.

Responsibilities

• Shape well-connected, sustainable places by providing expert transportation advice on council projects.
• Develop ambitious transport and parking strategies with the Head of Transport & Environment.
• Lead diverse transport projects from concept to construction.
• Inspire and develop a team of transport specialists.
• Prepare clear committee reports and represent the service at council meetings.
