Job summary

Northumberland County Council is seeking an exceptional leader for the Head of SEND - Statutory, Specialist and Strategic Partnerships role. The post focuses on statutory and specialist requirements, coordinating with families, carers and partners to turn plans into reality.

The role reports to the Director of Education, SEND and Skills and will drive co-produced, high-impact strategies across the Local Area SEND Reform Plan, delivering improved outcomes for children and families in

Qualifications

• Significant senior leadership experience within SEND and education systems.
• Extensive knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and its practical application at strategic and operational level.
• Experience of co-production with parent carers, partners and wider voice forums to shape practice, policy and direction.
• Strong track record of improving outcomes for children and young people with SEND and delivering on plans and partnerships.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for SEND standards, assurance and statutory compliance, aligning with the SEND Code of Practice.
• Oversee high-quality SEND specialist provision across education settings, driving inclusion and outcomes.
• Support SENDCo’s and school leaders in achieving shared priorities.
• Identify, promote and share inclusive practices supporting targeted interventions.
• Lead co-production work with parent carer voices, young people, partners and staff to ensure approaches are understood by all.
• Develop and maintain the Local Area SEND Partnership across education, health and social care.
• Drive system-wide innovation to reduce inequalities and improve life chances for children and young people.
• Ensure robust performance frameworks monitor impact and drive continuous improvement.
