Job summary

Marchant Recruitment is seeking an experienced School Business Manager for a large secondary school in East Riding of Yorkshire. This role blends financial management with strategic planning, operational leadership and people management to support the Headteacher and senior leadership.

You will oversee budgets, procurement, HR administration, premises, IT and health and safety, ensuring a safe, efficient and well‑run environment where staff and pupils can thrive.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in school business management or a comparable senior operational role within a school or large education setting.
• Strong financial management skills including budgeting, forecasting and reporting.
• Understanding of HR procedures, procurement, health and safety compliance.

Responsibilities

• Financial Leadership: Manage budgets, planning, forecasting, expenditure, procurement and audit preparation.
• Operational Management: Oversee administration, premises, IT, and catering.
• Facilities & Compliance: Ensure safety, security, maintenance and health and safety compliance.
• HR & Staff Support: HR administration, payroll, contracts and recruitment support.
• Contracts & Suppliers: Manage external providers and contracts, monitor service delivery.
• Strategic Collaboration: Work with Headteacher and SLT on long-term objectives.
• Resource Management: Ensure efficient use of school resources for daily operations and development.
