Job summary

ASH Construction Group in Kent is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join our commercial team on UK rail and construction projects. You will manage commercial and contractual aspects from tender to final account, work with operations, and drive value through cost control and procurement.

The role requires a degree in Quantity Surveying, relevant rail/construction experience, and strong negotiation and communication skills. RICS qualification is advantageous but not essential.

Qualifications

• Degree in Quantity Surveying or related discipline.
• Experience as Quantity Surveyor in construction and/or rail.
• Strong knowledge of construction contracts, procurement and cost control.
• Good commercial awareness with ability to identify risks and opportunities.
• Strong negotiation and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple commercial priorities with operational teams.
• Proactive and organised approach; RICS qualification advantageous but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Manage the commercial and financial performance of projects.
• Prepare accurate cost estimates, budgets and forecasts.
• Monitor project expenditure, profitability and overall commercial performance.
• Prepare regular commercial and financial reports for Directors and the wider commercial team.
• Review, prepare and manage construction contracts.
• Manage variations, changes, claims and contractual matters.
• Identify commercial risks and implement appropriate mitigation measures.
• Manage subcontractor and supplier procurement, including obtaining quotations and negotiating commercial terms.
• Work closely with project and operational teams to identify value-engineering and cost-saving opportunities.
• Maintain accurate commercial records and project documentation.
• Prepare, negotiate and agree final accounts.
• Work collaboratively with clients, subcontractors, suppliers and internal teams to support successful project delivery.
• Support and provide guidance to other members of the commercial and construction teams where required.
