Job summary

Brighton & Hove City Council is seeking a Head of Procurement to lead the sovereign procurement service, shaping strategy, governance and commercial assurance across procurement, contract management and related functions. You will work with Members and the Corporate Leadership Team to deliver value and social outcomes at scale.

The role is a permanent, senior leadership position requiring extensive experience in procurement strategy, governance and delivering improvements in a complex public

Qualifications

• Strong strategic leadership and experience of developing and delivering procurement or commercial strategies.
• Deep knowledge of procurement legislation, governance and best practice.
• Proven ability to influence senior leaders and stakeholders on complex and high-risk issues.
• Experience of leading and developing high-performing, inclusive teams.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate strategy into delivery.

Responsibilities

• Lead the council's procurement, contract management and commercial assurance function, ensuring a consistent corporate approach across services.
• Strengthen governance, improve systems and processes, and lead strategic procurement to secure high-quality, cost-effective outcomes.
• Provide expert advice on high-value procurement decisions while guiding transformation, stabilisation and development.
