Job summary

North Herts Council is seeking a Development & Conservation Manager to jointly lead development management and related services in a changing planning environment. You will oversee a skilled team of 30+ officers and contribute to high-profile planning matters across North Hertfordshire, with hybrid home/office working and a focus on performance and customer service.

The role offers a permanent, full-time position with a salary range of £56,359 to £65,907 plus a £3,000 car allowance, located in

Qualifications

Substantial experience in development management within a local authority or similar environment.
Eligible for membership of, or a member of, the RTPI.
Experience of managing complex and significant planning applications and balancing priorities.
Able to provide clear professional advice to elected members, senior officers, applicants and communities.

Responsibilities

Lead development management, planning enforcement and technical support across a large team.
Provide strategic leadership and hands-on involvement in complex planning matters.
Collaborate with the existing leadership and distribute responsibilities to increase capacity.
Support a modern planning service focused on performance, customer focus and continuous improvement.
