North Hertfordshire Council is seeking an experienced planning leader to jointly manage a dynamic planning service. You will lead development management, enforcement, technical support and specialist functions, guiding a team of over 30 officers across a period of growth and change.

The role combines strategic leadership with hands-on involvement in complex, high-profile matters, mentoring colleagues, and enhancing service performance. Hybrid working is available.

Qualifications

• Substantial experience in development management within a local authority or similar environment.
• Eligible for membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI).
• Experience managing complex planning applications and balancing competing priorities.
• Confident providing professional advice to elected members, officers, applicants and communities.
• Experience leading planning staff and creating a positive, high-performing culture.
• Knowledge of planning enforcement, appeals and related legislation.
• Excellent communicator with a track record of building productive stakeholder relationships.

Responsabilités

• Oversee development management, planning enforcement, technical support and specialist functions with a team of 30+ officers.
• Provide strategic leadership while remaining hands-on on high-profile planning matters.
• Mentor and share knowledge within the management team to increase capacity and continuity.
• Support delivery of North Hertfordshire's planning priorities and performance.
• Foster collaboration and ensure high-quality development and customer focus.
