Job summary

Aberystwyth University is seeking a dynamic Director of Development and Alumni Relations to lead a team of fundraising professionals. You will manage a donor portfolio spanning the UK and international prospects, build strong internal and external networks, and drive the donor-centric strategy for philanthropy.

You will secure six- and seven-figure gifts and shape legacy giving while collaborating with senior stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Essential: Educated to degree level or equivalent.
• Experience of securing five- or six-figure gifts from individuals.
• Proven track record in philanthropic income targets.
• Knowledge of legacy giving strategies.
• Experience in approaching major donor prospects and securing gifts.
• Experience managing staff and supporting team objectives.
• Knowledge of relational databases for data-driven planning.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; strong relationship skills.
• Ability to travel in the UK and internationally; occasional weekend commitments.
• Welsh language ability at Level A2 or commitment to learn Welsh.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of fundraising professionals to meet ambitious income targets.
• Develop and manage a data-driven rolling portfolio of major donors and legators.
• Develop compelling cases for support with high fundraising potential.
• Secure six- and seven-figure philanthropic gifts.
• Oversee a proactive legacy giving strategy to maximise gifts in wills.
• Present proposals through meetings, events, publications.
• Brief senior stakeholders on major donor relationships for support and stewardship.
• Communicate with donors to build relationships and align with motivations.
• Research and present annual plans and targets, report progress.
