Job summary

Hitachi Rail Limited is seeking an experienced Strategic Planner to lead maintenance planning, forecasting and data governance across UK operations. You will develop long-term maintenance strategies, optimise resources, and support competitive bid submissions.

The role requires engineering or maintenance planning experience, advanced Excel, strong analytical and stakeholder management skills, and the ability to work across cross-functional teams. A Power BI or SAP background is desirable.

Qualifications

• Demonstrable experience in engineering or maintenance planning within a complex operational environment.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including complex modelling and dynamic array functionality.
• Strong analytical and critical-thinking capabilities, with the ability to interpret complex datasets and turn them into clear, actionable plans and reports.
• Hands-on engineering experience, with the ability to support the development and implementation of fleet improvement strategies.
• Proven ability to influence and engage stakeholders across different disciplines and organisational levels.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• The ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and take ownership of activities.
• A collaborative approach and strong stakeholder engagement skills.
• HNC/HND or relevant equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Plan & forecast integrated heavy and light maintenance plans across fleets.
• Develop generator unit and pantograph forecasts and long-term maintenance strategies.
• Validate maintenance schedules against technical and contractual requirements.
• Develop scenario-based planning models for bids and operations.
• Identify risks related to material availability, resources, and depot capacity.
• Support maintenance optimization through scope alignment and location efficiencies.
• Collaborate with Projects, Operations and Procurement to ensure robust plans.
