Placements24 is seeking a seasoned Senior Insurance Underwriting Manager to lead underwriting operations in Randburg, Gauteng. This strategic role sets underwriting strategy, mentors a team of experienced underwriters, and drives profitable portfolio growth in South Africa.

You will refine guidelines, assess complex risks, monitor performance against metrics, and collaborate with claims, actuarial and sales to achieve business objectives.

Qualifications

• A minimum of 10 years of progressive underwriting experience with 5+ in a management role.
• Proven expertise across commercial and personal lines underwriting.
• Strong leadership, team management and motivational skills.
• Deep knowledge of risk assessment, pricing strategies and contracts.
• Excellent analytical and decision-making abilities.
• Understanding of South African regulatory environment.
• Proficiency in underwriting software and analytics tools.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills.
• Relevant tertiary qualification in Insurance, Finance, or Business.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations of the underwriting department.
• Develop and enforce underwriting policies and guidelines.
• Lead, mentor, and develop underwriters for high performance.
• Analyze complex risks and decisions on coverage and pricing.
• Monitor performance against metrics and identify improvements.
