Job summary

The Part-Time Finance People is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to provide hands-on, commercially minded financial leadership for owner-managed SMEs in Merseyside. You will partner with business owners, deliver robust management reporting, and drive profitability while maintaining strong controls.

This client-facing, self-employed role requires commitment to two days per week onsite, with opportunities to work with additional clients as our portfolio grows.

Qualifications

• Qualified ACA/ACCA/CIMA or qualified by experience.
• Minimum 3 years UK-based experience as Financial Controller.
• Experience supporting SMEs and owner-managed businesses.
• Strong management accounting and board reporting experience.
• Extensive budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management.
• Excellent commercial awareness and business partnering skills.
• Experience improving financial controls, processes and reporting.
• Ability to work independently and manage client relationships.
• Strong working knowledge of Xero.
• Available to attend client sites in Merseyside and surrounding areas for a minimum of two days per week.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and present monthly management accounts and board packs.
• Deliver KPI reporting and performance analysis.
• Analyse revenue, margins, profitability, stock and costs.
• Provide commercial recommendations to improve profitability.
• Translate financial data into practical actions for leadership teams.
• Lead budgeting and annual planning processes.
• Produce rolling forecasts and scenario planning models.
• Develop and maintain cash flow forecasts.
• Identify risks and opportunities and support strategic decisions.
• Build confidence in financial reporting across the business.
• Review and strengthen financial controls and governance.
• Improve reporting processes and finance systems.
• Drive continuous improvement and finance best practice.
• Support, develop and mentor finance staff.
