Job summary

Wessex Archaeology, a leading UK archaeology and heritage organisation, seeks a Senior Director to lead the Planning and Heritage Consultancy Directorate. You will set strategy, oversee complex planning advice, and develop senior teams while maintaining strong client relationships and financial performance.

You will report to the Chief Commercial Officer and shape service priorities, budgets, and risk management, contributing to organisational strategy and future priorities.

Qualifications

• Specialist expertise in historic environment planning consultancy and UK planning system.
• Experience advising on complex heritage matters with clear communication of recommendations.
• Evidence of setting direction and delivering results through others.

Responsibilities

• Set the strategic direction and priorities for the consultancy team.
• Provide senior oversight of historic environment assessment and advice.
• Lead and develop Principals and senior colleagues with clear responsibilities and wellbeing focus.
• Set and deliver the Consultancy budget with revenue and profitability accountability.
• Maintain client relationships and coordinate input across projects to secure work.
• Coordinate consultancy input with other Directors and service leads across projects.
• Oversee quality assurance and manage project, contractual and H&S risks.
• Contribute to organisational strategy via the Senior Leadership Group.
