Job summary

Romans Recruitment Group Ltd is seeking a Construction Buyer in the Newcastle upon Tyne area to manage procurement across departments with a strong construction bias. You will report to the Head of Purchasing and ensure continuity of supply while optimising cost and delivery performance.

The role requires experience in construction procurement, supplier relationship management and the ability to coordinate with site teams on deliveries and capacity planning.

Qualifications

• Experience within a construction, civil engineering, building contractor or related environment.
• Strong commercial awareness and business acumen.
• Experience purchasing construction materials, plant, equipment or subcontract services.
• Ability to build and maintain strong supplier relationships.
• Good analytical and numerical skills.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Sound understanding of procurement and cost control principles.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Outlook.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and procurement requirements simultaneously.

Responsibilities

• Purchase goods, materials and services to ensure operational needs are met, considering price, quality and delivery.
• Manage the performance of the Assistant Buyer, delegate tasks and provide guidance and training.
• Build, maintain and manage supplier relationships and ensure good communication.
• Assess and evaluate suppliers and undertake performance reviews to ensure contract compliance and drive improvements.
• Support product change requests and review impact on capacity plans.
• Stay updated on changes impacting supply or demand and advise accordingly.
• Attend meetings and raise concerns to prevent schedule risks.
• Receive requisitions for civil engineering and building materials.
