Job summary

M-Sport UK, based at Dovenby Hall, is seeking a Stores Counter Operative to manage day-to-day parts supply and stock control in a fast-paced motorsport environment. The role requires automotive knowledge, parts identification skills, and strong administrative capability to support production across engineering and workshop activities.

You will work closely with technicians and warehouse staff to ensure accurate parts availability, efficient counter service, and precise stock records.

Qualifications

  • Automotive knowledge of vehicle components, parts and terminology.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication with stakeholders.
  • Exceptional organisational skills and accuracy in identifying, issuing and recording parts.

Responsibilities

  • Counter service: issue/receive parts and build kits for departments.
  • Identify parts using part numbers, descriptions, drawings, catalogs and systems.
  • Ensure technicians have correct parts to complete work on time.
  • Maintain accurate stock records of issued/received/returned parts.
  • Organise and maintain stock within Stores ensuring clear labelling and accessibility.
  • Carry out regular stock checks and investigate discrepancies.
  • Maintain accurate parts records and related documentation.

Job description

ABOUT THE ROLE

Operating at the highest levels of international motorsport, M-Sport UK delivers programmes across the FIA World Rally Championship, Rally Raid, and a variety of global customer racing activities. We are looking to recruit a highly organised and proactive Stores Counter Operative to our busy Stores Department team at the Dovenby Hall headquarters.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a background in motor trade parts, automotive parts or a similar environment to bring their knowledge into the fast-paced world of international motorsport. Working closely with technicians, stock controllers and other warehouse personnel, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day supply and control of parts and materials required for production.

The role responsibilities include:
  • Counter Service: Serving the Stores Counter, issuing and receiving parts, components, materials and consumables as required and picking build kits for departments.

  • Parts Identification: Identify automotive and motorsport components accurately using part numbers, descriptions, drawings, catalogues and internal systems.

  • Parts Supply: Ensure Technicians have the correct parts and materials available to complete their work efficiently and to agreed deadlines.

  • Stock Control: Maintain accurate stock records, ensuring all parts issued, received and returned are recorded accurately.

  • Parts Management: Organise and maintain stock within the Stores area, ensuring parts are clearly identified, stored correctly, easily accessible and highlight low stock amounts.

  • Stock Check: Carry out regular stock checks and investigations into discrepancies, escalating issues where appropriate.

  • Parts Documentation: Maintain accurate parts records, documentation, and associated information in accordance with company procedures.

Essential Criteria & Skills:
  • Automotive Knowledge: Good knowledge of vehicle components, parts and terminology.

  • Parts Identification: Ability to accurately identify and differentiate between vehicle parts using part numbers, descriptions and catalogues.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the confidence to liaise professionally with colleagues, suppliers and other stakeholders.

  • Organisation & Attention to Detail: Exceptional organisational skills and high level of accuracy when identifying, picking, issuing and recording parts.

  • Administration Skills: Strong administrative ability with experience maintaining accurate records and documentation.

  • IT Literacy: Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Outlook and Word.

  • Time Management: Ability to priorities workloads effectively and meet deadlines within a busy environment.

  • Customer Service: A customer-focused approach, with the ability to provide an efficient and helpful service to internal departments.

  • Problem Solving: Ability to identify issues, follow them through to resolution and communicate effectively throughout.

  • Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with multiple departments whilst also working independently when required.

Preferred Experience:
  • Previous experience working in a motor factors, main dealer, independent garage or automotive parts environment.
  • Experience using stock management or ERP systems.
