Job summary

M-Sport UK in the Lake District region seeks a practical Yard Operative to join the Operations team at Dovenby Hall. You will help move, prep and organize equipment, vehicles and supplies, and support day-to-day site duties.

The role requires a full UK driving license, hands-on skills and the ability to work flexibly including evenings and weekends to support motorsport events.

This is a hands-on, safety-focused environment offering a clear path to contribute to championship programmes.

Qualifications

  • Full UK driving license with the ability to drive a range of company vehicles safely and responsibly.
  • Previous experience of professional or work-related driving would be advantageous.
  • Strong practical and hands-on skills, with the ability to safely handle equipment, tools, vehicles and materials.
  • Good understanding of basic vehicle checks and the importance of maintaining vehicle safety and roadworthiness.
  • Good understanding of health and safety requirements when working with vehicles, equipment and materials.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a busy event operations team.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage equipment, vehicles and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues across the business.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, in line with the requirements of motorsport programmes.

Responsibilities

  • Loading & Unloading: Safely load and unload event equipment, tools and supplies from trucks and storage facilities, ensuring the secure transport and handling of all items.
  • Vehicle Checks: Perform regular basic maintenance checks on a range of vehicles, ensuring they are roadworthy and comply with relevant safety standards.
  • Vehicle Maintenance Reporting: Promptly report any vehicle maintenance issues or defects to the Transport Manager.
  • General Driving: Undertake local and national driving duties, including airport runs and the collection and delivery of parts, equipment and other materials.
  • Vehicle Movement: Professionally move trucks and other large company vehicles within and outside the company premises, including for road tests and preparation for events.
  • Equipment Management: Maintain accurate records of equipment and tools, ensuring they are correctly sorted, stored and maintained.
  • Site Upkeep: Keep the site, yard and related facilities clean, tidy and organised to ensure a safe and efficient working environment.
  • Event Support: Assist with event set-ups and provide practical support with other operational requirements as needed.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Operating at the highest levels of international motorsport, M-Sport UK delivers programmes across the FIA World Rally Championship, Rally Raid and a variety of global customer racing activities. We have an exciting opportunity to recruit a practical and reliable Yard Operative to join our Operations team at our Dovenby Hall headquarters.

This is a varied and hands‑on role supporting the day‑to‑day operation of our site, vehicles and event activities. The successful candidate will play an important role in the safe movement, preparation and organisation of equipment, vehicles and supplies, while also supporting the wider Operations team with general driving, site upkeep and event requirements.

Essential Criteria & Skills:
  • Driving Licence: Full UK driving license with the ability to drive a range of company vehicles safely and responsibly.
  • Driving Experience: Previous experience of professional or work‑related driving would be advantageous.
  • Practical Skills: Strong practical and hands‑on skills, with the ability to safely handle equipment, tools, vehicles and materials.
  • Vehicle Awareness: Good understanding of basic vehicle checks and the importance of maintaining vehicle safety and roadworthiness.
  • Health & Safety: Good understanding of health and safety requirements when working with vehicles, equipment and materials.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work effectively as part of a busy event operations team.

Preferred Experience:
  • Previous experience within motorsport, automotive, engineering or manufacturing, logistics or a similar operational environment would be advantageous.
  • Experience driving larger vehicles or commercial vehicles would be advantageous.
