Job summary

SIG plc is seeking a Stock Controller to establish and maintain robust inventory control and valuation, recording stock movements accurately and within required timescales.

You will manage raw materials and stocked items, forecast consumption, and set min/max levels while negotiating prices and maintaining supplier relationships. The role involves monthly stock valuation reporting and close collaboration with warehouse, manufacturing, and admin teams to drive accuracy and efficiency.

Job description

Stock Controller

To establish and maintain robust systems of inventory control and valuation and to ensure that all stock use and movement transactions are recorded both accurately and within required timescales.

What you will be doing
  • Overall accountability for managing raw material and stocked item inventories, incoming and on the ground.
  • Forecasting and analysing consumption rates to maintain min/max stock holding levels
  • Negotiating prices where policy is not set elsewhere
  • Accountable for accurately recording stock movements and allocations
  • Maintain accurate records of stock characteristics, including prices
  • Responsible for Implementing and maintaining rolling stock counts across a range of stock types
  • Investigate and report on variances
  • Work closely with warehouse, manufacturing, and administration teams to improve accuracy and reduce errors
  • Accountable for monthly closing stock valuations
  • Ensure compliance with material specifications and company stock policies
  • Develop and enhance relationships with suppliers.
  • raising and managing purchase orders for designated stock categories and ensuring supplier performance meets business requirements.
  • Minimise working capital through the reduction of overstocks as well as slow and obsolete stock.
  • Generate and report against KPI’s, conduct adhoc analysis and report findings
  • Monitor financial and other performance targets where appropriate, initiate action plans to ensure these targets are met.
  • Work within Health, Safety and Environmental guidelines and ensure best practice
  • Develop effective relationships with all areas of the business to achieve objectives.
  • Undertake projects within the branch as requested and directed.
  • Any other duties as deemed relevant and reasonable with the role scope.
What you will bring
  • Able to demonstrate strong IT and software application skills including Excel.
  • Strong analytical capability.
  • Inventory planning and forecasting experience.
  • Understanding of stock valuation principles.
  • Experience within manufacturing or distribution environments.
  • Strong negotiator.
  • Commercially astute.
  • Strong communicator and team player with strong customer focus.
  • Excellent personal organisation skills and adept at relationship building.
