Job summary

Surrey County Cricket Club seeks a Steward Supervisor for The Kia Oval to lead a team of safety stewards on matchdays. The role is casual, with zero-hour terms and compensation of £18.86 per hour.

You will supervise staff, coordinate with Area Managers, and complete post-matchday reports to improve operations. The ideal candidate holds an NVQ Level 3 in spectator safety, demonstrates strong leadership and communication, and can work 80% of matchday fixtures.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Monitor stewards and areas under control and act proactively during events.
• Respond to minor incidents and communicate with control room and Area Manager.
• Give pre-event briefings on health and safety procedures and evacuation points.
• Report incidents, hazards and actions taken to supervise and control room staff.
• Provide information and assistance to spectators and staff arriving at the venue.
• Assist with venue evacuations and direct spectators as directed by management.
• Handle spectator disruptions and complete post-matchday reports for operational feedback.

Steward Supervisor

• Contract Type- Casual
• Hours vary depending on match schedules
• Weekend, evening and bank holiday availability required

The Position

We are currently seeking forward-thinking individuals who ideally hold their NVQ Level 3 certificate in spectator safety to become part of our matchday team as Supervisors. The position is open to the right people who want to make a difference and are willing to commit to 80% of matchday fixtures.

You will be supervising a team of customer safety stewards and/or SIA’s, working closely with Area Managers to ensure the smooth running of the operation in your assigned area. Excellent supervisory skills and the ability to work efficiently in a team are essential for success in this position. You must be able to show leadership qualities and integrity.

In addition to on-day responsibilities, you will also be required to complete post-matchday reports, providing feedback and insights on operations, incidents, and team performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Be proactive throughout the day by monitoring the stewards/SIA’s and areas which you have control over.
• Respond to minor incidents and communicate to the control room and Area Manager any action you are about to take.
• Give pre-event briefings to your staff on health and safety procedures, evacuation points, and crucial information relevant to the day’s event.
• Report any suspicious activity, incidents, potential hazards in your assigned area to your Area Manager or control room and take any immediate action that may be needed.
• Provide information and assistance to spectators and staff arriving at the venue.
• If required, assist with the evacuation of the venue and direct spectators to the relevant holding areas as directed by your Area Manager or control room and relay this to those working under you accordingly.
• Deal with spectator/crowd disruptions.
• Complete post-matchday reports to provide operational feedback, highlight areas for improvement, and share insights with Area Managers for future planning.
