Job summary

University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust is seeking a Technician for the Hospital Sterilisation and Disinfection Unit at the County site, with cover at Royal Stoke. You will clean, sterilise and package surgical instruments, then return them to theatres and clinics. Twilight shifts (14:00–22:00), weekend work, and on-call/bank holiday rota apply, with in-house training provided.

No prior experience is required and visa sponsorship is not available.

Qualifications

• Good standard of education with literacy and numeracy skills.
• Basic computer skills are required for daily tasks.
• Reading small lettering on instruments is essential for accuracy.
• Following written instructions and delivering high-quality work to tight deadlines is expected.

Responsibilities

• Check surgical instruments after use.
• Clean and disinfect instruments.
• Package and sterilise instruments.
• Deliver sterilised instruments to theatres, wards, departments, clinics and GP surgeries.
• Supply and maintain surgical instruments.
• Read small lettering on instruments.
• Follow written instructions.
• Use a PC daily.
• Cover the Royal Stoke site as required.
• Work weekends, on-call and bank holiday rota.

Job description

Technician post in the Hospital Sterilisation and Disinfection Unit at the County site, with cover at Royal Stoke, for University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust. The work covers cleaning, sterilising and packaging surgical instruments after use, then returning them to theatres, wards, clinics and GP surgeries. Twilight shifts from 14.00 to 22.00, weekend working, and on-call and bank holiday rota duty apply, with shifts liable to change at short notice. No experience is needed, as in-house training is given; visa sponsorship is not available.
