Job summary

University of Sheffield is seeking an independent and motivated Research Associate to work on an MRC-funded project examining how one‑carbon metabolism influences neural differentiation from human pluripotent stem cells. The role collaborates with Queen's University Belfast and requires a PhD in stem cell biology and strong immunocytochemistry and imaging skills.

Qualifications

  • PhD (or near completion) in stem cell/developmental biology.
  • Experience with culture and differentiation of human pluripotent stem cells toward neuronal lineages.
  • Experience in qPCR, flow cytometry and immunocytochemistry/imaging.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to supervise PhD and undergraduate/postgraduate students.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct high‑quality research of international standing in the stated remit.
  • Identify literature and update knowledge; assess validity and contribution to the field.
  • Define novel research objectives and implement related experiments.
  • Disseminate findings through papers and conference presentations.
  • Manage time, materials, finance and equipment effectively.
  • Support PI with research proposals and funding applications.
  • Supervise or co‑supervise students; delegate and monitor their work.
  • Engage in consortium meetings and collaborations with partners.
  • Plan ahead to meet journal deadlines and prepare presentations.
  • Adhere to ethical standards and align with sustainability goals.
