Job summary

Thorn Baker Recruitment seeks an experienced Design Manager for a major £500 million steel frame project in Bedfordshire. This on-site, full-time role leads design activities across disciplines to meet objectives, timelines and budget.

You will coordinate with project managers, engineers, architects and subcontractors, ensure compliance with UK building regs and health & safety standards, and drive design risk management throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in Civil/Structural Eng, Architecture or related field.
• Chartered status preferred.
• Five+ years in design management within construction, steel frame projects.
• Experience on large-scale projects (£100m+) and liaising with multiple stakeholders.
• Knowledge of UK building regs and health & safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Manage and coordinate the design process across disciplines to meet objectives and budget.
• Lead development, review and approval of design documents for steel frame structures.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, architects and subcontractors to resolve issues.
• Ensure compliance with building regs, health & safety, and company policies.
• Oversee design risk assessments and manage changes to mitigate impacts.
• Facilitate design team meetings and maintain clear communication channels.
• Monitor design progress and report deviations with corrective actions.
• Support tender and procurement with accurate design input.
