JAM Recruitment Ltd is seeking an experienced Steel Erector in High Wycombe for a full-time, permanent role with an initial 6-month term. Salary £34,000–£39,000 per year. Hours are 08:00–17:00 Mon-Thu and 07:00–16:00 on Fridays, with travel to various project locations.

The role involves erecting structural steel, reading technical drawings, coordinating with site teams, and managing day-to-day on-site activities. CSCS is required; IPAF/CPCS qualifications are advantageous.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a steel erector on commercial or industrial projects.

• Physically fit and able to work at height and in varying weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Erect structural steel frames, beams, columns, and related components.
• Read and interpret fabrication drawings and site plans.
• Collaborate with site supervisors, crane operators, and fabrication teams.
• Install bolted connections, bracing, and secondary steelwork.
• Operate lifting equipment and power tools safely; maintain site safety.
• Support day-to-day on-site operations and adapt to project changes.

Job description

Steel Erector required in High Wycombe, covering various project sites, on a full-time, permanent basis with a minimum six-month initial term. The salary is £34,000 to £39,000 per annum, with working hours of 08:00–17:00 Monday to Thursday and 07:00–16:00 on Fridays. This role covers absence within an established team and may be extended. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality installation work while taking responsibility for daily site activities. Duties include coordinating tasks, working independently, and ensuring smooth progress across multiple erection stages. Applicants should possess significant structural steel experience, relevant certifications, and the ability to manage site operations effectively.

This 6 month fixed term role is to provide cover while a permanent team member is recovering from illness but could be extended.

Key Responsibilities

• Erect structural steel frames, beams, columns, and associated components
• Read and interpret fabrication drawings and site plans
• Work collaboratively with site supervisors, crane operators, and fabrication teams
• Install bolted connections, bracing, and secondary steelwork
• Operate lifting equipment, hand tools, and power tools safely
• Maintain high standards of site safety and housekeeping
• Adapt to changing project requirements and assist with on site problem solving

Requirements

• Proven experience as a steel erector on commercial or industrial projects
• Strong understanding of structural steel installation and site safety
• Physically fit and comfortable with manual handling duties
• Ability to read and work from technical drawings
• CSCS card required; IPAF, CPCS, or slinger/signaller qualifications advantageous
• Comfortable working at height and in varying weather conditions
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work effectively within a team
• Full UK driving licence
• Own transport essential
• Ability to weld would be advantageous
