Job summary

The Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-upon-Avon is seeking a Scenic Welder/Fabricator (Grade 3) to join our Scenic Workshops. You will interpret CAD drawings, fabricate and weld scenic components, and contribute to automated scenic systems within a live theatre setting.

Full-time, permanent role with average 44 hours per week; occasional evenings and weekends during production periods. Reporting to the Head of Scenic Construction, you will ensure high standards of safety and sustainability

Qualifications

• High-level MIG, TIG and ARC welding skills.
• Experience using fabrication equipment such as cold saws, grinders, band saws and plasma cutters.
• Experience creating curved architectural scenery using tube benders and rollers.
• Good material knowledge of mild steel, aluminium, stainless steel and brass.
• Ability to read and interpret complex CAD drawings, technical blueprints and scale models.
• Strong understanding of mechanical construction principles and fabrication techniques.
• Awareness of automated/moving scenic elements.
• Good understanding of health and safety, including safe and sustainable working practices.

Responsibilities

• Reviewing technical drawings and completing assigned tasks.
• Measuring, cutting and assembling scenic components using industrial machinery.
• Fabricating and finishing steelwork to a high standard.
• Carrying out regular tool safety checks and maintaining workshop standards.
• Loading scenic components into venues and securing them safely on stage.
• Assisting with on-site modifications, repairs and technical adjustments during fit-up and production periods.
