Job summary

Welsh National Opera's Cardiff Theatrical Services (CTS) seeks Scenery Builders to craft and assemble scenery in metal or carpentry materials, primarily from construction drawings, with occasional verbal instructions, and to work as part of a team delivering high-quality scenery for UK and international audiences.

Dual-skilled workers in Carpentry and Welding & Fabrication will be assessed annually; a full, clean driving licence is desirable, and candidates should be comfortable with

Qualifications

• Relevant qualifications or considerable experience in a workshop environment.
• High level of skill in scenery construction, Carpentry or Welding and Fabrication.
• Proficient in using hand and machine tools; able to work from drawings.
• Ability to prioritise a complex workload and meet deadlines.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
• Able to work independently and within a team.
• Good time management and attention to detail.
• Flexible in working practices; capable of long hours on feet.
• Physical ability to lift and manipulate heavy scenic items.
• Experience with workshop machinery and safety-conscious behavior.

Responsibilities

• Make and assemble scenery in metal or carpentry materials from drawings.
• Follow projects from workshops through to installation on stage or venues.
• Collaborate with CTS's Scenic Art Department and other teams.
• Attend to client and production requirements for UK and international shows.
