General Summary:

As a Qualcomm Wireless Connectivity Modem Systems Engineer, you will research, design, develop, verify, validate, and commercialize Wireless connectivity modem as a product or component within a product. Works on the implementation of a multi-RAT (Radio Access Technology) wireless connectivity modem from industry specifications (such as Bluetooth, UWB, IEEE 802.15.4, etc.). Has experience in the wireless connectivity specifications and can efficiently implement the shared resources of a multi-RAT modem. Works closely with other functional groups to develop a cost effective, high quality and high capability modem that meets industry and customer requirements with high performance (e.g. throughput, latency, power consumption) and acceptable cost (e.g. silicon area, calibration complexity, code size).

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 4+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience.
  2. OR Master's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 3+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience.
  3. OR PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 2+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  2. 8+ years of experience in at least one or more of the following areas: Communication theory, digital signal processing, information theory, channel coding, and probability and random processes.
  3. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  4. Ability to program effectively in C/C++, Python and/or Matlab.
  5. 3+ years of experience working in a large matrixed organization.
  6. 1+ year of work experience in a role requiring interaction with senior leadership (e.g., Sr. Staff level and above).

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Leverages and applies advanced modem knowledge (e.g., RF, baseband signal processing, communication protocols) and design methodology for areas within modem hardware, systems, or firmware to execute modem assignments; participates in and shares own perspective within domain of modem subject matter expertise in design reviews and project meetings.
  2. Performs complex functional analysis to drive requirements and specifications and to define and align with standards for hardware and software.
  3. Develops and analyzes complex system level design including requirements, interface definition, functional/performance definition, and implementation of a new system or modification of an existing system.
  4. Collaborates with cross-functional teams (e.g., product management teams, engineering teams, etc.) to complete project work, including implementing and verifying the system.
  5. Develops algorithms and works on new and innovative ideas (e.g. IDFs) for a product or feature area.
  6. Drives triage of complex problems at the system level to determine root cause and presents results of testing and debugging to internal and external stakeholders.

Level of Responsibility:

  1. Works independently with minimal supervision.
  2. Provides supervision/guidance to other team members.
  3. Decision-making may affect work beyond immediate work group.
  4. Requires verbal and written communication skills to convey complex information. May require negotiation, influence, tact, etc.
  5. Has a moderate amount of influence over key organizational decisions (e.g., is consulted by senior leadership to make key decisions).
  6. Tasks do not have defined steps; planning, problem-solving, and prioritization must occur to complete the tasks effectively.
