Job summary

Marks & Spencer is expanding its Software Engineering team in Greater London, delivering scalable software and complex integrations for the FH&B domain and warehouse automation partners. The role focuses on robust, observable systems, strong coding practices and mentorship across engineers.

You’ll collaborate with Architecture and product teams to shape technical direction, improve interface quality and ensure reliable live operations in warehouse environments.

Qualifications

  • Proven track record in full-stack software engineering and delivering scalable interfaces and complex integrations.
  • Strong understanding of software engineering principles and maintainable, resilient systems.
  • Experience with automated testing across unit/integration/system layers for frontend and backend.
  • Experience implementing DevSecOps across large enterprise applications.
  • Proficiency in Java, SQL, JavaScript and modern CI/CD tooling.
  • Experience building cloud-native apps with focus on reliability, security, and performance.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Knowledge of AI/ML tech and GenAI tools like Copilot in the SDLC.
  • Retail domain knowledge, particularly WMS/WCS integrations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, test and debug software solutions, setting engineering standards across the team.
  • Provide technical leadership on complex projects and ensure alignment with strategy and standards.
  • Design and implement scalable software and third-party integrations with Architecture teams.
  • Conduct thorough code reviews, ensure automated testing coverage and performance.
  • Collaborate with product managers and stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions.
  • Mentor engineers and foster professional growth across levels.
  • Drive operational excellence with monitoring, incident response and continuous improvement.
