Job summary

Paymentology is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to provide technical leadership across multiple teams and domains. You will shape architecture, guide decisions, and help build reliable, scalable systems powering billions of transactions globally.

You’ll mentor engineers, define engineering standards, and partner with product and operations to align roadmaps. This is a hands-on, high-impact role in a fast-growing payments technology company.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience designing and operating highly available distributed backends.
• 10+ years delivering cloud-native software at scale.
• Experience mentoring engineers and shaping technical strategy.
• Fluent English communication; Java experience appreciated.

Responsibilities

• Drive technical strategy across engineering domains and cross-team initiatives.
• Shape scalable architectures that support Paymentology's long-term product and business goals.
• Translate complex technical challenges into clear, practical solutions.
• Establish engineering standards, architectural patterns, and best practices across teams.
• Identify and mitigate long-term risks around reliability, scalability, security, and maintainability.
• Partner with Engineering, Product, and Operations to influence technical roadmaps and delivery.
• Mentor senior engineers and strengthen technical leadership across the organisation.
• Lead initiatives that improve engineering quality, testing, observability, and operational excellence.
• Contribute hands-on to critical systems where your expertise delivers the greatest impact.
