Workplace Classification: Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time. The employee is expected to be onsite up to 3 times per week at either our Charlotte or Austin Technical Centers.

The Team: GM’s Motorsports Software team develops next-generation Motorsports IT software solutions using cloud infrastructure and software standards. Our team supports GM Motorsports and Race teams involved in NASCAR, IndyCar, and IMSA, ensuring they have a competitive edge.

The Role: The Staff Software Engineer provides technical leadership and software delivery. This experienced role requires an expert technical foundation, hands-on project contributions, solution architecture development, and experience with scalable cloud systems. You will shape and implement motorsports software systems, focusing on aerodynamics systems design.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team in implementing GM Motorsports aero-thermal applications, including CFD models, visualization, and analysis.
  • Design solution architectures and lead team consensus on technical approaches.
  • Focus on modern application design, code quality, and modular frameworks.
  • Identify and address value gaps within the aerodynamics team with innovative solutions.
  • Resolve technical blockers and ensure smooth project milestones.
  • Deliver scrum stories and manage implementation architectures, interfaces, build frameworks, testing, and deployment.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members and support team goals.
  • Manage your part of the solution reliably and independently.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Expertise in CFD systems, microservices, or data streaming platforms.
  • Experience with full-stack application development.
  • Proficiency with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • 5+ years in microservices development.
  • 2+ years in web services design and development.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and devops practices.
  • Familiarity with agile/scrum methodologies.

People Skills:

  • Ability to think critically and create solutions independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong technical decision-making skills and knowledge of distributed applications.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in a technical discipline.
  • Knowledge of aerodynamics engineering.
  • Experience with AI, Machine Learning, VR frameworks, and data streaming technologies.
  • Cross-platform development and UI/UX design experience.
  • Leadership and architectural experience.
