Job Description:

Workplace Classification: Hybrid - This position does not require full-time on-site presence. Employees are expected to be onsite up to 3 times per week at our Charlotte or Austin Technical Centers.

The Team:

GM’s Motorsports Software team develops innovative IT solutions for motorsports, leveraging cloud infrastructure and software standards. Our team supports GM Motorsports Engineering and Race teams, helping secure podium finishes in NASCAR, IndyCar, and IMSA series.

The Role:

The Staff Software Engineer provides technical leadership and hands-on software development. This senior role involves designing scalable cloud systems, leading solution architecture, and contributing to motorsports software development. This role emphasizes aerodynamics systems design to give GM a competitive edge on race day and in vehicle development.

Responsibilities:
  1. Lead a team in developing GM Motorsports aero-thermal applications, including CFD models, visualization, and analysis.
  2. Design solution architectures and lead the team in implementation strategies.
  3. Focus on modern application design, code quality, and modular frameworks.
  4. Collaborate with the aerodynamics team to identify and address value gaps.
  5. Resolve technical blockers and ensure smooth project delivery.
  6. Manage Scrum story delivery and oversee implementation, testing, and deployment.
  7. Support team collaboration and ensure reliable, self-managed delivery.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or relevant field.
  • Expertise in CFD systems, microservices, or data streaming platforms.
  • Experience in full-stack application development and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • At least 5 years in microservices development and 2 years in web services design.
  • Proficiency with containerization tools like Kubernetes and Docker.
  • Understanding of software best practices, DevOps, and CI/CD.
  • Experience working in agile/scrum environments.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in a technical discipline.
  • Knowledge of aerodynamics, AI/ML, VR frameworks, data streaming, and cross-platform development.
  • Leadership and architecture experience.
  • Interest in motorsports and high-paced environments.
