Job Description:

We are seeking a highly experienced Staff Software Engineer to join GM’s Motorsports Software team. This role involves providing technical leadership and delivering innovative software solutions for motorsports applications, focusing on aerodynamics systems design and cloud-based infrastructure. The position requires expertise in system architecture, cloud services, microservices, and a passion for motorsports. Responsibilities include leading development teams, designing scalable systems, and collaborating across teams to optimize performance and innovation.

Workplace Classification:

Hybrid: This position does not require full-time on-site presence. Employees are expected to be onsite up to 3 times per week at our Charlotte or Austin Technical Centers.

The Team:

GM’s Motorsports Software team develops next-generation IT solutions for racing teams, leveraging cloud infrastructure and innovative software standards to give GM a competitive edge in NASCAR, IndyCar, and IMSA racing.

The Role:

The Staff Software Engineer will lead technical initiatives, contribute to project delivery, and shape the architecture of motorsports software systems, with a focus on aerodynamics and cloud solutions.

Responsibilities:

  1. Lead a team developing GM Motorsports aero-thermal applications, including CFD modeling and visualization.
  2. Design and implement scalable, modular system architectures.
  3. Collaborate with teams to identify and fill value gaps with innovative solutions.
  4. Resolve technical blockers and ensure smooth delivery milestones.
  5. Manage scrum story delivery and contribute to build frameworks, testing, and deployment.
  6. Support team collaboration and maintain reliable, self-managed delivery.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Expertise in CFD systems, microservices, or data streaming platforms.
  • Experience in full stack application development and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • At least 5 years in microservices development and 2 years in web services design.
  • Proficiency with containers (Kubernetes, Docker), CI/CD, and agile methodologies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a technical discipline.
  • Knowledge of aerodynamics, AI/ML, VR frameworks, data streaming tech, and cross-platform development.
  • Leadership and architecture experience.
