At Flock, we do insurance very differently.

Our real-time, data-driven approach allows us to price connected vehicle insurance and assess risk more effectively, while providing fleet owners with insights to improve safety. We not only pay claims but also help prevent them. Currently, we insure hundreds of fleets in the UK, including clients like JLR and Amazon, as well as fleets working for DPD, Uber, and Bolt.

You will provide technical leadership to the “Growth and Trading” team, guiding engineers towards elegant solutions and impactful deliverables. Your team builds products that enhance the value our customers receive and increase policy sales, placing you at the intersection of technical complexity and business growth at Flock.

A LITTLE MORE ON WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

• You’ll design and implement elegant solutions to technical problems, with success measured by positive impact on the company and team.
• You’ll partner with your team’s product manager to define, scope, and collaboratively solve problems.
• While the PM focuses on the “why” and “what,” you will shape the “how” and “when” alongside two engineers in your team.
• You’ll ensure the team delivers meaningful solutions while mentoring engineers towards focus, speed, and impact.
• You’ll collaborate with other product teams and the Head of Architecture to improve our platform and patterns.
• You’ll report to the Head of Engineering and work with the CTO and other leaders to enhance developer experience through principles and practices.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO FLOCK

• ESSENTIAL
• Constructive and thoughtful; you contribute new ideas and are receptive to feedback.
• Experience with microservices, events, and queues.
• Familiarity with AWS managed services, prioritizing their use for efficiency.
• Proficiency with TypeScript and modeling with types in backend and frontend development.
• Understanding of how infrastructure and application layers work together to optimize solutions.
• Knowledge of architectural approaches, especially in serverless environments and layered architecture.
• Experience beyond common frameworks and ORMs.
• A thoughtful approach to testing, shaping code structure and supporting serverless environments.

• PREFERABLE
• Ability to define and track success metrics in a product-focused environment.
• Experience with SQS, EventBridge, stream processing, and queue optimization.
• Knowledge of AWS Lambda performance considerations.
• Familiarity with AWS CDK for infrastructure as code.
• Experience with Domain-Driven Design principles.
• Knowledge of functional programming principles and types.
• Practical knowledge of multiple programming languages.
• Experience in enterprise and/or B2B product development.
