An established industry player is seeking dedicated Band 5 Nurses for their neurosurgical ward. This role offers a unique opportunity to work with children facing complex neurological conditions in a supportive environment. You will be part of a diverse and enthusiastic team committed to delivering exceptional care. The Trust provides comprehensive training and development opportunities, ensuring that all staff are equipped with the necessary skills to excel in their roles. If you are passionate about making a difference in the lives of children and their families, this position is perfect for you.
Welcome to Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust. Incorporating Birmingham Children's Hospital and Birmingham Women's Hospital we’re proud to be by your side every step of the way, with our patients and families at the heart of everything we do.
We would like to invite Registered and Experienced Band 5 Nurses to apply for a job on our neurosurgical ward.
Our busy neurosurgical ward provides a tertiary service for children with disorders of the brain and spine that require surgical management. It offers surgical opinions, investigations and treatments which because of their unusual or specialist nature cannot be provided by a district general hospital.
The ward has 18 specialist beds, which incorporates a high dependency area for patients who require close observation. The conditions that we treat include; CESS (children’s epilepsy surgery services), craniofacial, neurology, general hydrocephalus, spinal dysraphism, traumatic brain injury, rehabilitation, neuro-oncology, CNS infections, complex cervical spinal surgery, cerebral vascular disorders such as AVM and moya moya disease.
The unit performs around 800 procedures each year and our services cover central England which includes parts of Wales. We are one of four supra-regionally funded craniofacial areas and one of the NHSE’s four specialised CESS centres.
We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated individuals with a passion for delivering care to our children. At BWC we have a positive learning culture and offer excellent comprehensive professional development opportunities to ensure that our nurses are supported in their new and exciting role. There are a range of training opportunities available along with expert clinical support from our most experienced staff.
Band 5 nurses can expect an excellent preceptorship programme, regular in-house training to ensure all neurosurgical competencies are met and kept updated. Each nurse has an allocated preceptor who can individualise their teaching according to your learning needs. Neurosurgical experience is not essential and we welcome all candidates. We provide neurosurgical training as part of your preceptorship programme including neurosurgical specific skills and an external level 6 and level 7 accredited neuroscience course.
At BWC staff experience and wellbeing is important to us. We offer a wide variety of benefits, award and recognition initiatives, opportunities to get involved with networks, along with health and wellbeing support. In addition, we also offer flexible working opportunities.
We are a friendly, diverse and enthusiastic team who take pride in our ward and support one another to provide excellent care.
