Job description

The Intensive Care Unit at Homerton is an incredibly exciting and rewarding place to work. Over the past few years, the team have worked in challenging circumstances with fantastic dedication, commitment and good humour in order to provide high standard specialist care to critically ill patients. We have recently opened up a brand new wing in our Critical Care Unit giving us the opportunity to expand our team.

The role involves assessing, planning, delivering and evaluating holistic nursing care for critically ill patients. The Intensive Care Unit / High Dependency Unit provides high quality care for patients with a wide variety of medical, surgical and obstetric conditions in a critical care environment.

Responsibilities:
  • To deliver a high standard of nursing care.
  • To communicate with families and significant others, involving them in the planning and delivery of care.
  • To organise patient discharges.
  • To respond to clinical emergencies as required, ensuring that he/she is up to date with CPR training.
  • To use medical equipment safely and competently.
  • To record and monitor vital signs, recognising when to inform senior nursing staff in the event of clinical deterioration.
  • To participate in a team approach to achieving ward/unit objectives.
  • To liaise appropriately with all members of the multidisciplinary team in a manner that promotes effective teamwork.
  • To support junior staff in their development, contributing to the learning environment by actively participating in ward teaching programmes.
  • To complete mandatory training when required to do so.
  • To ensure that own practice is evidence based.
  • To follow a structured development pathway.
  • Act in accordance with NMC Code of Professional Conduct and the Trust Values.
