Join to apply for the Staff Nurse - Gynaecology Department role at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

An opportunity has arisen for a registered nurse to join our Gynaecology Department. We are looking for a caring and motivated nurse, preferably with experience in a relevant specialty, to join our team on the Women’s Surgical Unit, our inpatient ward. With support, the post holder is expected to gain experience across our range of clinics, which are co-located in our outpatient area.

We aim to offer a rotation across all areas of the department to the successful candidate.

The Women’s Surgical Unit is a small, 9-bedded inpatient area caring for women undergoing elective and emergency gynaecological procedures. As a member of the team, you will provide care for a range of conditions, including complications in early pregnancy, pregnancy loss, abnormal bleeding, pelvic pain, endometriosis, suspected cancers, fertility issues, and other gynaecological concerns.

You will work closely with the multidisciplinary team and support senior nursing staff to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality care. As the unit often has a fast turnover of patients, it is vital that you are able to build rapport quickly and demonstrate excellent communication skills when caring for women.

You need to closely works with the Outpatient area, which includes:

  • Early Pregnancy and Acute Gynaecology Assessment Unit (EPAGAU): A leading centre for the management of early pregnancy complications and outpatient care. Nursing staff are involved in a range of care, from initial telephone triage to follow-up upon discharge.
  • Colposcopy Department: This is consultant-led, with two nurse colposcopists providing examinations and treatments for women who have had abnormal smear results, as well as for those presenting with signs and symptoms of pre-cancerous changes to the cervix. The nurse’s role will be to assist in these clinics, with the potential to develop specialist skills in this area.
  • Ambulatory Gynaecology Unit: This unit provides care for women requiring a variety of diagnostic, minor surgical, and medical procedures, such as outpatient hysteroscopy, cystoscopy, and day admissions for hyperemesis. It serves as a link between the inpatient ward and the Emergency Department to support improved patient flow within gynaecology.
