Staff Nurse - Endoscopy RHCH

We are seeking a band 5 Staff Nurse to join our friendly and supportive team in the Endoscopy Department at Royal Hampshire Hospital.

The role involves rotating within our new pre-assessment service, ensuring patients are fully assessed before procedures to understand their treatment, discuss concerns, ask questions, and review medications or dietary needs.

Training will be provided.

Main duties of the job
  • Achieve competence in all aspects of Endoscopy to work independently, ensuring safe staffing and skill mix. This includes understanding procedures, indications, contraindications, performance, risks, and complications, and providing skilled assistance during procedures.
  • Become fully competent in clerking patients for all endoscopic procedures, obtaining informed consent, and ensuring patients understand the procedures and risks.
  • Assist in developing departmental standards and protocols to ensure safe, effective, and continuous care.
  • Develop skills in intravenous cannulation and venesection.
  • Participate in the 24/7 on-call rota.
  • Maintain and store endoscopic equipment properly to ensure it remains in good working order.
  • Gain knowledge of endoscopes and accessories to assist and troubleshoot during procedures.
  • Understand the decontamination process for endoscopic equipment, including infection risks, to support the team.

  • UK professional registration, e.g., NMC or HPC.

  • Awareness of local and national agendas within the specialty.
  • Experience in endoscopy, gastroenterology, or colorectal surgery.
  • Post-registration hospital experience.
Skills & Ability
