Job description

We are looking for a band 5 Staff Nurse to join our friendly and supportive team in our Endoscopy Department at Royal Hampshire Hospital.

The post will involve a rotation within our new pre-assessment service, which will ensure that patients are fully assessed prior to their procedures. This includes helping patients understand their procedures, discussing any concerns, and addressing medication or dietary changes needed.

Training will be provided.

Responsibilities include:
  1. Achieving competence in all aspects of Endoscopy to work independently, including understanding procedures, risks, and complications, and assisting during procedures.
  2. Becoming fully competent in clerking patients for all endoscopic procedures, obtaining informed consent, and ensuring patient understanding.
  3. Assisting in developing departmental standards and protocols for safe and effective care.
  4. Gaining skills in intravenous cannulation and venesection.
  5. Participating in the 24/7 out-of-hours on-call rota.
  6. Maintaining and storing endoscopic equipment properly.
  7. Understanding the construction, function, and troubleshooting of endoscopes and accessories.
  8. Learning about the decontamination process for endoscopic equipment to support infection control.
