Job description

We are looking for a band 5 Staff Nurse to join our friendly and supportive team in our Endoscopy Department at Royal Hampshire Hospital.

The post will involve a rotation within our new pre-assessment service, which will ensure that our patients are fully assessed prior to their procedures. This enables patients to understand their procedure, discuss any concerns, ask questions, and review any medication or dietary changes needed.

Training will be provided.

  1. Achieve competence in all aspects of Endoscopy to work independently, ensuring safe staffing and skill mix. This includes understanding all endoscopic procedures, their purpose, indications, contraindications, performance, risks, and complications, and providing skilled assistance during procedures.
  2. Become fully competent in clerking patients on admission for all endoscopic procedures, obtaining informed written consent, and ensuring patients understand the procedures and associated risks.
  3. Assist in developing departmental standards and protocols for safe and effective care.
  4. Develop skills in intravenous cannulation and venesection.
  5. Participate in the 24/7 out-of-hours on-call rota.
  6. Gain knowledge and competence in the care, maintenance, and storage of endoscopic equipment to ensure proper functioning.
  7. Understand the construction, function, and application of endoscopes and accessories to assist and troubleshoot during procedures.
  8. Learn about the decontamination process for endoscopic equipment, including infection risks, to support the team.
