Job description

Caring. Compassionate. Skilled. Meticulous. Enthusiastic.

These are just some of the words used to describe the world-class nurses at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).

Flamingo Ward is a busy 21-bedded Cardiac Intensive Care Unit caring for children and young people with complex heart and lung problems. Common conditions include pre- and post-operative patients with congenital heart disease, tracheal patients, and those in heart failure. We are a national centre for heart and lung transplants and also care for patients 'bridging to transplant' on Berlin Heart devices.

We offer a comprehensive education programme to help develop your specialist knowledge and skills.

What we can offer you:

  • Opportunities to develop skills in managing deteriorating patients, ventilation, chest drains, post-operative care, complex discharges, child development, and inotropes.
  • Ward-level educational support during shifts
  • Completion of competency documents
  • Career progression including education and specialist nursing roles
  • Self-rostering

No paediatric practice? No problem! We welcome everyone interested in this exciting field of clinical practice.

Please note: the working pattern for this role includes a mix of long days, nights, and weekends. We are not accepting applications from Newly Registered Practitioners (NRPs) for these vacancies.

  • To provide clinical leadership to a designated nursing team and ensure high-quality nursing care for children and families.
  • To act as a role model and expert clinical practitioner.
  • To assist in the safe, effective, and efficient management of the department within allocated resources.
  • To promote continuous improvement of patient care through research and evidence-based practice.
  • To undertake delegated responsibilities for the department in the absence of the Ward Manager.
  • To familiarize with and adopt the principles of the NHS Chief Nursing Officer's vision for Compassion in Practice.

Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust (GOSH) is an international centre of excellence in paediatric healthcare. GOSH is an acute specialist paediatric hospital committed to providing world-class care to children and young people with rare and complex conditions.

Our team members are the heart, hands, face, and soul of GOSH. Being part of our team is incredibly rewarding, as you will make a significant difference in the lives of the children and young people we care for.
