Job description

We are currently looking for enthusiastic and motivated Band 5’s who have a passion for Emergency Nursing to join our friendly Emergency Department.

Please note that this post is for children’s Emergency Department.

It is desirable to have post registration experience in an acute care setting and have the resilience to meet the challenges of our busy but rewarding department, however we would also like to hear from newly qualified nurses or those who have worked in an acute setting prior or during training and have an interest in making this their career.

Newham Emergency Department serves a large diverse population and on average sees 400-500 patients a day, including acute medical patients, paediatrics, and patients in a mental health crisis.

We offer a structured orientation and ongoing support and guidance. We follow the RCN National Emergency Nursing Framework competencies. Our experienced PDN will support you to achieve your competencies at level 1, with a mapped pathway into our Emergency Care and Trauma courses at level 2.

  1. To provide the highest standard of individualised and holistic patient care, in conjunction with the interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary teams.
  2. You will be self-motivated, an excellent communicator, and have proven clinical and organisational skills but also have a desire to learn and develop and work as an integral member of our large and dynamic team.
  3. The post holder will work within the NMC Code, trust policies, guidance, and procedures to ensure safe working practice.
  4. At Barts Health, we enable flexible working patterns where possible and are involved in developing self-rostering.
  5. As well as supporting our staff’s professional development we offer a New Well-being space, outside areas including designated garden areas as well as fitness classes including a running group. Each of our departments also have wellbeing champions.

Barts Health is one of the largest NHS trusts in the country, and one of Britain’s leading healthcare providers.

The Barts Health group of NHS hospitals is entering an exciting new era on our improvement journey to becoming an outstanding organisation with a world-class clinical reputation. Having lifted ourselves out of special measures, we now have the impetus and breathing space to chart a fresh course in which we are continually striving to improve all our services for patients.

Our vision is to be a high-performing group of NHS hospitals, renowned for excellence and innovation, and providing safe and compassionate care to our patients in east London and beyond. That means being a provider of excellent patient safety, known for delivering consistently high standards of harm-free care and always caring for patients in the right place at the right time. It also means being an outstanding place to work, in which our WeCare values and behaviours are visible to all and guide us in how we work together.

We strive to live by our WeCare values and are committed to promoting inclusion, where every staff member has a sense of belonging. We value our differences and fully advocate, cultivate and support an inclusive working environment.
