The Integrated Procedures Unit (IPU) has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, organised and competent Staff Nurse to join our core nursing team.
This role is for 37.5 hours per week, worked over 4 days. IPU is open 07:30-19:30 Monday to Friday, so this is a great opportunity to achieve an excellent work-life balance whilst joining a dynamic nurse-led service.

Main duties of the job
- To assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for patients undergoing a diverse range of day case procedures.
- Act as a clinical role model for new staff, reflecting the philosophy, beliefs and standards of the department.
- To effectively communicate with all members of the multidisciplinary team to promote a positive working partnership across all IPU services.
- To act as a preceptor/mentor/clinical supervisor for junior staff and students.
- Ensure that all prescribed drugs and treatments are given correctly and in accordance with Trust policy, including the correct care and custody of controlled drugs.
- Rotate onto the day of surgery admissions unit.
- Rotate into the endoscopy unit.
- Rotate into the nurse lead dressings clinics.
- Escalate concerns in a patient's condition to senior members of the nursing team, medical staff.
- To participate in clinical audit.
- To maintain full compliance with all essential training and clinical skills competencies.
- To identify areas for self-development and training within the Performance Planning and Development Review structure.

The Integrated Procedures Unit (IPU) is a nurse-led, fast-paced and dynamic service. The unit consists of a procedures unit, interventional radiology unit, ultrasound room, surgical dressings clinic, outpatients clinic, day of surgery admissions unit, an operating theatre and second stage recovery bays.
You will become part of this complex multidisciplinary team and benefit from a comprehensive induction period.
The Christie is one of Europe's leading cancer centres, treating over 60,000 patients a year. We are based in Manchester and serve a population of 3.2 million across Greater Manchester & Cheshire, but as a national specialist around 15% patients are referred to us from other parts of the country.
We provide radiotherapy through one of the largest radiotherapy departments in the world; chemotherapy on site and through 14 other hospitals; highly specialist surgery for complex and rare cancer; and a wide range of support and diagnostic services.
