Job summary

The Croft Child & Family Unit in Cambridge is a nationally commissioned Tier 4 hospital for children under the age of 13 who require inpatient treatment for mental health difficulties. Uniquely The Croft is proud to support families remaining together and can have parents stay alongside their children to work towards their goals.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated Nurse to complement our multidisciplinary team.

The Staff Nurse is a pivotal role in supporting and empowering families during their time on the ward. In addition, you will be developing your clinical skills and supervising junior staff in readiness to progress in your career.

We will provide quality supervision, space for reflection, and opportunities for professional development.

With Cambridge Children's hospital as part of our future, where a unique vision of integrated mental health and physical healthcare sits alongside research, you will be working as part of a wider system of professionals bringing this project to the children and families of East Anglia.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide quality evidence-based nursing advice, support, and care for service users aged 13 and under with their parent within a multidisciplinary setting for a diverse client group who display a range of mental health issues, neurodevelopmental, and behavioural challenges. They will be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care, and will have a working knowledge of local, national policies, and legislation which govern current service provision. The post holder will be responsible for identifying and contributing to the training needs of junior registered and unregistered staff and ensure that issues of equality, diversity, and rights are dealt with in accordance with good practice and legislation. They will ensure that effective communication pathways exist and that they act within their sphere of responsibility, managing the shift in the absence of the Ward Manager or the designated deputy.

To be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the evidence-based care required, including health promotion for a named service user/group ensuring it meets Trust timescales. To participate in the setting of quality standards, including the monitoring and reviewing in line with current clinical guidance practice and policy. To ensure the postholder understands and meets their professional role and responsibilities under the Care Programme Approach. To ensure that the requirements of the Mental Health Act 2007 are observed, adhered to, and implemented. To promote carer and service user involvement within the service and for its provision. To encourage recovery, discovery, and independence, taking into account risk assessment and management. To establish therapeutic relationships with service users and the implementation of evidence-based therapeutic interventions with appropriate boundaries in accordance with Nursing and Midwifery Councils professional code of conduct. To demonstrate care and compassion in your work. To respect and value the different therapeutic approaches within the multidisciplinary team but ensure that the agreed philosophy approach is adopted and followed. Person Specification

Education / Qualifications

• Registered Nurse Mental Health (RNMH) or other specialism relating to post such as Registered Nurse, Learning Disability (RNLD) or Registered Nurse Children's (RNC).
• Live NMC registration

Experience

• Basic level of managing young people/service users with complex mental health needs
• Experience of providing mentorship
• Experience relating to inpatient Child and Adolescent Mental Health

Skills & Abilities

• Enthusiastic and has the ability to participate in full rotational shifts
• Ability to carry out physical intervention
• Ability to use own initiative, to enable a contribution to a multidisciplinary team approach
• Commitment to and understanding of evidence-based practice
• Awareness of safeguarding issues and responsibilities under relevant legislation
• Understanding of the Care Programme Approach (CPA)

Physical Requirements

• Physically able to undertake a demanding role safely, as and when required.
