Job summary

Rivian is seeking a Staff Machine Learning Engineer to advance end-to-end autonomous driving models that unify perception, prediction and planning in a single system. This role focuses on scaling models from vast sensory data to enable autonomous driving.

You will guide architecture and deployment of the Large Driving Model, collaborating across perception, planning, simulation and ML infrastructure to meet latency and robustness constraints, while mentoring the autonomy ML team.

Qualifications

• PhD or Master’s/Bachelor’s in CS, robotics or related field.
• Strong software background with Python and C++.
• Experience training and evaluating transformer models or end-to-end autonomous agents.
• Familiarity with real-time inference systems and autonomous vehicle constraints.
• Proven leadership in driving ML projects from research to production.

Responsibilities

• Develop technical strategy and architecture for end-to-end autonomous driving model.
• Build multi-modal, multi-task transformer-based systems for closed-loop autonomy.
• Create training and evaluation pipelines at scale over vast driving data.
• Collaborate with perception, planning, simulation and ML infra teams.
• Align model capabilities with deployment constraints like latency and robustness.
• Publish internal guidance and mentor autonomy ML engineers.
