Our love of exploration and technical expertise help us to provide our clients with invaluable insights. We source and make sense of the most relevant Geo-data for their needs, so they can design, build and operate their assets more safely, sustainably and efficiently. But we’re always looking for new talent to take the next step with us. For bright minds who enjoy meaningful work and want to push our pioneering spirit further. For individuals who can take the initiative but work well within a team.

The role

Fugro is recruiting a Laboratory Technician to join their soils laboratory based in Wallingford. The laboratory uses state of the art equipment to analyse soil and rock samples from our ground investigation projects around the UK. As a Laboratory Technician, your role will be to perform laboratory tests using data logging equipment, recording data in handwritten format and entering it into bespoke data processing templates working alongside the laboratory team as well as the wider Fugro staff and site staff including drillers, geotechnical engineers and project managers. The test data you create will then provide the basis for the design and modelling of buildings and infrastructure. There is also potentially opportunity to work on site, monitoring and testing in the field and assisting geotechnical engineers on offshore drilling vessels.

Who We’re Looking For

GCSE English, Maths and Science Grades 1-4 or equivalent qualifications is essential.

Completed apprenticeship or served at least 2 years as a Trainee Technician (consideration will also be given to candidates with no experience, who can demonstrate the necessary aptitude to carry out this line of work).

General computer literacy including Microsoft Excel.

Strong communication, teamwork, planning and problem-solving skills with being adaptive to changing context of work tasks and the ability to work in a safe and risk aware manner.

Previous experience of working in a laboratory is desired.

By giving you the freedom to grow faster, we think you’ll be able to do what you do best, better. Which should help us to find fresh ways to get to know the earth better. We encourage you to be yourself at Fugro. So, bring your energy and enthusiasm, your keen eye and can-do attitude. But bring your questions and opinions too. Because to be the world’s leading Geo-data specialist, we need the strength in depth that comes from a diverse, driven team.

  • An interesting and challenging job with a supportive and dynamic team.
  • Career progression and opportunities within Fugro.
  • Extensive career & training opportunities both nationally and internationally.
  • Competitive salary accompanied by an attractive package including contributory pension scheme, life assurance and private medical insurance.
  • Free parking.
  • Option to lease an electric car.
