Job summary

Dex in London is seeking an experienced backend architect to shape the technical direction of our AI-powered platform that handles constrained networks and real-time operational data.

You'll lead architecture across teams, address intermittent connectivity and low-bandwidth scenarios, and ensure reliable software for edge devices. This role requires strong systems experience and RFC-driven collaboration.

Qualifications

• Owned architecture and technical direction for critical backend systems.
• Expertise in edge computing, latency and distributed systems at scale.
• Backend experience in Rust, Java, Go or C++ with production reliability.
• Mentor and RFC writer who unblocks teams.

Responsibilities

• Own architecture and technical direction for backend systems that other engineers depend on.
• Define and implement solutions for intermittent connectivity, resource-constrained embedded compute, air-gapped fleets, and low-trust networks.
• Drive technical decisions and RFCs for fleet coherence, software versioning over low-bandwidth radios, and trust boundaries in unsecured environments.
• Ensure graceful degradation and reliability in high-stress, real-time operational settings.
• Actively identify and address cross-team technical opportunities and challenges.
